A bit about us
The internet can be a bit of an anonymous place to do business and you can never really know the people you are doing business with from reading a few words. So we thought we would introduce ourselves to you and tell you a bit about who we are and what drives us.
Dick Townley opened his sports retail shop in 1929 in a small lock up shop in Station Approch. His main business being to restring tennis rackets. This was the first base of the business.
In 1934 a new group of shops were built at Cranleigh Parade in Limpsfield Road up by the pond. The business moved to number 13 Limpsfield Road where Dick lived above the shop in a two bedroom flat.
In 1930 he formed the Warlingham Wednesday XI, where he reigned as skipper for many years. There is a committee meeting minute recorded in november 1945: The Committee unanimously agrees that a letter should be sent to the Authorities requesting that they should fill in the bomb craters across the ground.
The second owner of the business was Norman Riddell, he changed the shop name to Dick Townley Sports and run the business for just over 30 years untill he sold the business to its new owners in January 2006. This also included a move of shops, from number 13 Limpsfield Road to number 25 Limpsfield Road which is a much bigger shop and is now its present home.
